Water Blessing Ceremony and Storytelling with Grandmother Nancy

We are beyond thrilled to invite you to partake in a sacred Water Blessing Ceremony led by renowned and beloved native wisdom keeper, Grandmother Nancy Andry.  This is a rare opportunity to join in this sacred ceremony and to learn ancient stories and songs from Grandmother Nancy.  These oral traditions are not written down and are only passed down in person.  We are so honored to be able to offer this experience here to our community. 

We will open promptly at 1pm with a sacred fire followed by the Water Blessing Ceremony in the Native tradition.  During our time together, participants will enjoy ceremony, songs, teachings and storytelling.  We will close our time together with a craft enjoyed by adults and children alike.   

While it is not required, for those who would like to partake in the ceremony here, it is traditional for women to wear long skirts.  Ankle-length skirts are encouraged. Your generous donations are gratefully received.  This event is a fundraiser to help Grandmothers dear friend, Josee Vollant, recover from severe flood damage.  Josee is a single mom raising 4 children. One of her children has asthma, and the house needs mold removal. Grandmother Nancy is asking for everyone to help Josee and her family by making a donation to rebuild the flooring in her home.  

Donations will be happily accepted at the door. 

ABOUT GRANDMOTHER NANCY:  

Grandmother Nancy is of Algonquin and French heritage and has followed the Red Road since childhood. Seeking out elders willing to teach, her first two mentors were Lakota, one an author, one a medicine man. An Ojibwa medicine woman, then a Mi’kmaq grandmother later adopted her. Community elders gave her permission to pour lodges since 1991. She served as a facilitator for a Native Women’s Circle in federal prison for 17 years.  A Sundancer and a Sacred Pipe carrier, she is acknowledged as an elder and a grandmother in her communities in Canada, where she was given instruction to bring out and share certain teachings. Grandmother Nancy is a well-known storyteller, sharing legends from many different Nations in schools, health facilities and the pow wow circuit. She was a staff member of the Joined Nations of Connecticut, a youth organization for those of Native heritage. She has given talks in Calgary, Canada, St. Croix USV, and at various centers in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut.  She also owned and operated an equestrian business until retirement, and now incorporates Horse Medicine in some of her lectures about Native culture.
